AMERICAN RACING HEADERS 1-7/8” or 2” HEADERS & EXHAUST SYSTEMS FOR CAMARO SS / ZL1

Give your LT1 / LT4 the room it needs to breathe.

There is a reason long-tube headers are one of the most popular upgrades for the 6th Gen Camaro. Whether you are working with a naturally aspirated LT1 or a supercharged LT4, getting exhaust out efficiently is an important part of making more power.

American Racing Headers (ARH) combines American manufacturing, quality stainless steel construction, and carefully designed tube routing to deliver an exhaust upgrade worthy of your build.

And this recommendation comes from personal experience, as I currently run ARH headers on our GMS ZL1 Shop Car. Great fitment, great power, and American made sets ARH apart from alot of the competition., and if you have ever fought your way through a “value brand” header installation, you know how much fitment that matters.

WHY AMERICAN RACING HEADERS?

When you invest in headers, you are buying more than tubing. Flange quality, weld quality, collector design, and how everything fits around the car all contribute to the finished result.

ARH checks the boxes we look for:

• American-made 304 stainless steel construction.
• 3/8” thick laser-cut header flanges.
• Hand-ported, TIG-welded inlets.
• Merge collectors with scavenger spikes.
• Primary tube routing designed for the 6th Gen Camaro.
• Your choice of 1-7/8” or 2” primary tubes.
• Multiple system lengths to match your exhaust plans.
• Standard catalytic converters, upgraded G-Sport cats, or no-cat configurations.

WHICH SYSTEM SHOULD YOU CHOOSE?

All three system options use long-tube headers. “Intermediate,” “Long,” and “Full” describe how much of the exhaust system is included behind the headers.

INTERMEDIATE SYSTEM - KEEP YOUR FACTORY MID-PIPES AND MUFFLERS

Want ARH headers while retaining more of your existing exhaust?

The Intermediate system includes the headers and forward exhaust assembly, connecting to your factory mid-pipes with a mark-and-cut installation. Your factory mid-pipes and rear mufflers remain in place.

• Best for customers who want to retain the factory mid-pipes and rear exhaust.
• Available with 1-7/8” or 2” primaries.
• Choice of standard cats, G-Sport cats, or no cats.
• Cutting is required at the connection points; welding is not required for the intended factory connection.

LONG SYSTEM - REPLACE THE MID-PIPES, KEEP YOUR FACTORY MUFFLERS

The Long system carries the ARH exhaust farther back, with a 3” X-pipe and the tubing needed to connect to your factory rear mufflers.

This is the option for customers who want a more complete header-and-mid-pipe upgrade while keeping their existing factory mufflers and tips.

• Retains factory rear mufflers.
• Replaces the factory mid-pipe section.
• Available with 1-7/8” or 2” primaries.
• Choice of standard cats, G-Sport cats, or no cats.
• Requires a mark-and-cut connection at the factory mufflers; no welding is required for that connection.

FULL SYSTEM - HEADERS THROUGH QUAD TIPS

Want a complete ARH exhaust package?

The Full system includes long-tube headers, a 3” X-pipe, rear exhaust tubing, and ARH Pure Thunder mufflers finished with four 4” double-wall polished stainless steel tips.

• Replaces the exhaust from the headers through the rear tips.
• Includes ARH mufflers and quad tips.
• Available with 1-7/8” or 2” primaries.
• Choice of standard cats, G-Sport cats, or no cats.
• Coupe only. The quad-tip Full system does not fit convertibles.
• Replaces the factory rear muffler assembly; do not assume factory NPP valve functionality is retained.

2” HEADERS ONLY - FOR A CUSTOM EXHAUST PLAN

Already have a custom exhaust project in mind and only need the headers?

We also offer the 2” headers-only option, part number CAV8-16200300HR.

This selection does not include an Intermediate, Long, or Full exhaust system. Plan the downstream connections with your installer before ordering.

1-7/8” OR 2” PRIMARIES?

Choose the headers around the combination you are building, and where you intend to take it.

• 1-7/8”: A strong choice for many stock-displacement LT1 and LT4 combinations with moderate power goals.
• 2”: Our preference for combinations targeting roughly 800rwhp and beyond, larger-displacement engines, or builds with substantial airflow upgrades.

That is a general GMS recommendation, not a hard horsepower limit. Camshaft, cylinder heads, displacement, boost, and intended use all influence the right choice.

STANDARD CATS, G-SPORT CATS, OR NO CATS?

STANDARD ARH CATALYTIC CONVERTERS - 500-600rwhp

The starting point for customers who want a catted system without selecting the G-Sport upgrade. For a mild combination, standard cats may fit the build goals. For a modified supercharged LT4, discuss the expected power and use with us before choosing. Converter selection should account for heat and operating conditions as well as horsepower.

UPGRADED 4” G-SPORT CATALYTIC CONVERTERS - 600-850rwhp

UPGRADED 4.5” G-SPORT CATALYTIC CONVERTERS - 850-1,200rwhp

Our preferred direction for customers building a higher-output combination who want to retain catalytic converters. If your plans include more boost, heads, a camshaft, or sustained high-load use, let us help match the converter specification to the build. G-Sport offers different converter ratings, so the exact model matters. Note; when upgrading to the 4.5” UHO GESI Cats, they ship separately, and will need to be welded into the catless system. We do this as a bonus because so many high HP clients like to swap cats in and out with V-Bands, so we now supply the 4.5” option in that way.

Do not assume every G-Sport-equipped system carries the same horsepower capacity.

NO CATALYTIC CONVERTERS

For dedicated competition builds whose rules and operating requirements permit a no-cat exhaust. Expect stronger exhaust odor and a louder, potentially raspier sound. Going catless should be a deliberate choice based on the application.

Installing catalytic converters does not make these ARH long-tube systems street legal.

WHAT ABOUT THE HEAT?

Although Long-tube headers help make more power and volume, they add more radiant heat into the engine back, which means protecting nearby wiring, hoses, and spark plug wires deserves attention during installation.

Choose your heat-management option:

• RAW STAINLESS: As shipped, no protection, looks awesome, but offers no protection from the extra radiant heat.
• DEI HEADER WRAP: We offer an optional
DEI wrap kit for those who want maximum protection, DIY installation, and the best value to help manage radiant heat around the headers.

• JET HOT COATING: Known as the gold standard in header protection, is a great option, bur does require you send them out for coating after arrival, often takes 3-5 weeks and is also the most expensive option.

WHAT ELSE SHOULD YOU INSTALL AT THE SAME TIME?

Header installation opens up access that makes several supporting upgrades worth considering:

1; BMR Motor Mounts. Not only do these help with weight reduction and throttle response, this BMR Motor Mounts also help free up a bunch of space for header installation, which is why we always bundle these together but also installed them on our SHOP ZL1 at the same time as our headers.

2; Spark Plugs. No better time than after removing everything to gain access to the headers, to install a fresh set of Brisk Racing Silver Spark plugs for maximum power and efficiency. We like the RR12S for anything making more than 700whp.

3; Header Wrap. If you don’t have the 3-5 weeks needed to have your headers Jet-Hot Coated, or you prefer the least expensive option (no coating), then our DEI Header Wrap Package may be the perfect blend of form and function as we aim to keep under-hood temps in check.

4; ARP Header Studs. For those who prefer to work alone, and for those who want the aesthetic upgrade our 12-point polished SS header stud option is a great value, and there is not better time to install then along with your headers! If you have ever fought the gasket install while slipping in a set of headers by yourself you will know what I mean. These studs make the job 10X easier. You can read more about them HERE.

5; Spark Plug wires or boots. For those still running the OEM wires we highly recommend the Granatelli High Performance 0 ohm spark plugs wires for superior performance, heat protection and the color of your choice for that subtle splash of color. Already have some upgraded wires that you like with no boots? then consider our DEI protective boots. These work exactly as designed to keep your spark plug wires safe from excessive header heat.

Already planning several of these upgrades? Ask us about the GMS American Racing Headers bundle package.
