6th Gen Camaro Ridetech Coil-Over Package - The RIDE you want, and the FEATURES you need…

You might be surprised just how many questions I get on a weekly basis from people asking about how they can “improve” the ride quality on their ultra-stiff DSSV shocks found on the ZL1 1LE track package. Which until now, was a short response.

Trust me… I absolutely LOVE my ZL1 1LE, and LOVE the confidence the DSSV shocks provide on a smooth road, but DAMN if they don’t rattle your fillings loose on most average roads, and even worse, can easily launch the car into the next lane when you hit a dip without slowing on a rough road. Aside from poor visibility, and lacking about 150hp, the most common complaint I hear about the ZL1 1LE is that the DSSV shocks are overly rough, lack adjustability and most of all, are NOT rebuildable.

That said, It’s clear that I am not the only one that previously dreamed of a softer ride and more features from time to time.

If only there was an affordable coil-over solution that offered 24-way rebound adjustability, a lifetime warranty, a wide option of interchangeable spring rates, ride height adjustments between stock and a 1.25” drop? Oh, and they need to be rebuildable, and they need to cost less than a replacement set of DSSV’s, and the set needs to weigh less than the DSSV’s…. with easy caster and camber adjustments… is that asking too much?

Although I thought so, the team at Ridetech disagreed, and proved a point with their recent release of their HQ Series coil-overs for the 6th Gen. Camaro, and boy does it check all the boxes.

As with the 5th Generation Camaro, the latest 6th Gen. car retains an independent rear suspension layout and enjoys more capable sports-car-like handling because of it. That said, there is always room for improvement with factory muscle, and Ridetech’s adjustable HQ coil-over suspension allows for an aggressive yet functional stance and improved handling performance without sacrificing ride quality or comfort.

Once you get your hands on these coil-overs it’s clear that Ridetech aims high for the balance of form and function as these high-tech coil-overs feature a subtle black and gray anodized finishes that pair nicely with the rest of the included SS 12-point hardware. Suspension tuning is accomplished via the 24-position rebound adjustable HQ series coil-overs with Fox Factory valving and internals. Ridetech has developed and released a new feature for these 2016-2024 Camaro Coil-overs which includes a rubber isolated spherical bearing design that minimizes NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) commonly associated with other performance coil-overs. This additional compliance strikes a great balance for those wanting the performance benefits of an adjustable suspension without sacrificing ride quality or comfort. For those looking to put their Camaro to use on the autocross or road course, Ridetech has integrated camber and caster plates into the top of the front coil-overs for quick and easy adjustments to maximize front grip.

Driver Feedback: As you may know, the roads we frequent are rough, which made me eager to test these out. Although I have not tested all of the rebound settings, I can tell you that the overall ride quality on the street is noticeably improved. The car feels more compliant, and smoother everywhere I wish it was and nowhere I wish it wasn't. They handle the HP we are making and help us lay it down where we need it to. Canyon carving is now even more confidence-inspiring as I don’t fear being bounced off the road like I did before. So many benefits, and reasons to try them. Don’t forget, people are getting $1,500 - $2,000 for their USED DSSVs making your total cost to upgrade so much less!

Need a stiffer spring for a car that sees' more road course than street driving? Prefer a softer rear spring for better weight transfer on a drag car? No problem… you can order any one or more of the 12+ spring rate options direct from the Ridetech website.

Tired of leaky or broken DSSV’s and the inability to rebuild? You are not alone. This failure in design may be the single biggest issue with the DSSVs and of course Ridetech was not going to bring a DSSV-killer to market unless they could be rebuilt. This is a fast and easy service that takes about 10 days and can be ordered from their website.

While you're messing around with the suspension, may we recommend a lower control arm designed with coil overs in mind?

  1. BMR Lower Control Arms. These beauties were designed specifically for 6th Gen users running a true coil-over so that the extra mass of the OEM LCA and all of the mass needed to support the divorced rear spring can be removed, weight can be saved, and that cheap stamped metal paperweight can be properly disposed of, in place of THIS boxed end, square tube unit from BMR.

  2. ALIGNMENT: Don’t forget you should get a professional alignment done after installation.
