Katech Oil Pump + Billet Cover Bundle
By popular demand, Griffin Motorsports is now offering another bundle solution designed to help you save time, and save money while you're building and preparing your Gen.V LT engine for battle!
Katech Gen. 5 LT VVT-Delete Billet Front Cover Kit - Wet Sump #KAT-A6914
As you know by now, all Gen.5 LT engines are equipped with VVT “variable valve timing” and DoD “Displacement on demand”. Although both are great at extending fuel economy… both features add unnecessary weight and complexity to the LT4 valve train, which is why they are so commonly deleted during a standard head and cam package upgrade.
Although there are a few other ways to get this done, we feel that the Katech solutions are by far the most elegant, well engineered, best fitting and durable. Which is why they were used on our own shop car build found HERE.
The Katech VVT Delete front cover eliminates the heavy VVT cam phaser which can become problematic when installing an aftermarket cam kit. Designed for use with single bolt camshafts, the front cover includes a new 1 bolt sprocket, front main seal and cam bolt.
The first thing you will notice when you open the package is the extreme attention to detail found in the billet machining. Katech went to great lengths to make design this cover to look as well as it performs. Black anodized and made of billet aluminum in the USA by Katech.
NOTE: Customers installing this front cover on L82/L84 applications without the oil pump solenoid will need to plug the hole for the solenoid wiring passthrough. We recommend a Dorman 555-101 expansion plug with epoxy around the circumference of the plug, and staking the hole from the inside to lock in the plug.
Katech Gen. 5 LT4/LT5 AFM Delete Valley Cover #KAT-A6851
Although there are a few other ways to get this done, we feel that the Katech solutions are by far the most elegant, well engineered, best fitting and durable. Which is why they were used on our own shop car build found HERE.
Eliminates AFM on Gen 5 LT4/LT5 engines
Requires eliminating the heavy, failure prone AFM lifters.
Requires transfer of some parts from old valley cover: oil pressure sensor, PCV valve/fitting, PCV baffle, and valley cover gasket
Anodized and machined from billet aluminum in the USA by Katech
Check out the product VIDEO HERE.
FITMENT: 2017-2024 Camaro ZL1 + 2015-2019 Corvette Z06 + 2016-2019 Cadillac CTS.V + 2019 Corvette ZR1
Katech Gen. 5 LT1/LT4 Wet Sump Billet Oil Pump #KAT-A7502
As everyone knows by now, the critical weak link in LT engine platform is the oil pump. Specifically the powdered metal vane housing that will crack and break apart over time creating a loss in oil pressure and catastrophic engine failure if not caught early enough. Based on owner reports, it seems to be a matter of “when”, not “if” the pump will fail, as we have seen some pumps fail at 6k miles or less, and others fail near 100k miles.
Katech saw the issue early on, and was eager to deploy their in-house Mechanical Engineer’s, 45 years of racing experience to start working on a solution immediately, but actually had a hard time getting their hands on a failed unit, because most of them ended up at dealerships for a warranty replacement.
Once they did, R&D started in mid 2020, with the formal release in February 2021. Katech’s solution was somewhat simple. Replace all of the powdered metal pump internals with steel billet, design the pump with tighter tolerances, blueprint each one for the highest quality pump on the market. Something they have been doing on the LS platform since 1997 when those pumps started to fail due to tolerance issues.
Although the LT pumps are failing for a different reason, Katech identified the issue yet again, and implemented there engineering team to solve the issue once again, and create another gold standard for our LT oil pump upgrades.
Now just about four years and 2,500+ units later, Katech has yet to see one failed Katech unit with a broken billet vein gear or loss in oil pressure, which why so many of us consider this the “no brainer” upgrade, when it comes time to upgrade your camshaft.
Key Benefits;
Superior peace of mind for all builds from mild to wild.
Installs using existing GM OEM process and procedure.
Consistent oil pressure at all RPM’s and all applications.
No tuning, Alignment or Special Installation tools required.
Billet Steel internals replace the OEM powdered metal parts.
If you are like us, and enjoy wrenching on your car, as much as you do driving them, then I am sure you are already mulling the idea of doing this yourself, and saving the $4-5k many shops will charge to replace your oil pump and some common bolt-ons while the engine is out of the car. Considering the labor involved to replace an oil pump, it has been a common practice to combine this upgrade along with a typically head and cam package install, as it utilizes most of the necessary labor to achieve. That is exactly what we did to our in-house 2022 ZL1 when we pulled the motor at 2,000 miles in order to replace our pump. We not only have alot of resources that we can share for the DIY builder, but we can build you a custom parts bundle that will simplify your build, save you money, and can even help with recommending a remote tuner providing you more control for those of you that live in a performance shop desert like me.
