DRIVEN Racing Oil HP-X / Di50
Driven Racing Oil (HP-X Series) & (DI50) Racing Oil
The most effective purpose built motor oil on the market.
If your like me, a few months ago all I knew about Driven Oil was that they were expensive, and assumed they were some wanna-be “high end” oil maker that was no better than the competition…. and BOY WAS I WRONG. Special thanks Lake the Motor Oil Geek and THIS back to back test for opening my eyes to the advantage of a purpose built motor oil!
I was already proud of myself for investing in Amsoil, and getting away from the mass-produced “run of the mill” synthetic oils and stepped it up to a more boutique oil that would protect my investment. Which is why the intro to that 36 minute video had me hooked to find out if anyone could come close to beating Amsoil. Spolier alert… someone did.
Following the results of that video “particularly the amazing results of the oil temp test” I immediately called Driven to see WTF they were doing over there to get these results.
After a 45 minute conversation learning about their superior base oil composition, high-tech additives, Driven’s racing heritage and the “secret sauce” that Driven has engineered… I knew I needed to make the change, and was so excited to be able to share this with my high-performance gear head customers who care as much about performance and protection as I do.
Time to level up your lubrication game.
Engine oil isn’t just a maintenance item.
It’s the only barrier between your crankshaft and catastrophic failure.
That’s why Griffin Motorsports is proud to offer Driven Racing Oil, a lubricant developed not for commuter cars, but for championship-winning racing engines and modern high-performance power-plants like the LT4.
Driven HP-X and Di50 are purpose built products. When performance matters, your priorities change. You care less about drain intervals and more about film strength. You care less about gas milage targets and more about high-temp shear stability. You care less about being the cheapest on the shelf to having the lowest oil temperatures thanks to the premium PAO/ester-rich racing formulations.
Whether you're daily driving your direct injected LT engine or pushing your car to the limit on track, Driven oils deliver advanced additive chemistry, superior film strength, and proven high-temperature stability where it matters most.
After several conversations with Driven to discuss the platform we service, they helped us narrow down there extensive product offerings to 3 simple choices to help make buying easier.
HP-X 0W-40 Full Synthetic (cat friendly)
HP-X 5W-50 Full Synthetic (cat friendly)
DI50 15W-50 Full Synthetic Racing Oil (no cats only)
Keep reading for the selection guide down below.
Why Engine Oil Matters in High-Performance Engines
Modern high-performance engines — especially direct-injection, boosted platforms like the GM LT series — place extraordinary stress on engine oil.
These engines can experience:
Fuel dilution from direct injection
Continuous piston cooling oil demand
Extreme cylinder pressure depending on the modifications
Extreme oil temperatures depending on the use of the vehicle
High RPM valve-train loads and very tight bearing clearances
Under these conditions, generic off-the-shelf oils often shear down, lose viscosity, and lose their protective oil film, resulting in accelerated wear at best, and engine failure at worst.
We choose Driven Racing Oil because it’s clear they have spared NO EXPENSE to master the science of lubrication and have engineered their oil to specifically to address those conditions above by utilizing:
Advanced synthetic base stocks
Optimized ZDDP anti-wear additives
Enhanced molybdenum friction modifiers
Reduced calcium and sodium detergents to combat abnormal combustion
These oils are designed not just to meet standards — but to survive conditions that destroy ordinary oil. This is what sets Driven apart from the sea of mass-produced oils.
HP-X Series Oils (0W-40 & 5W-50)
The HP-X series is Driven’s flagship synthetic oil designed for modern high-performance engines that still run catalytic converters and emissions equipment.
These oils are ideal for performance street cars and track-day vehicles where reliability and emissions compatibility must coexist.
Key Features include;
• Premium full synthetic base oils
• High temperature viscosity stability
• Advanced anti-wear protection for cams, lifters, and bearings
• Enhanced resistance to shear under track conditions
• Superior oxidation resistance
• Compatible with catalytic converters and oxygen sensors
HP-X 0W-40
We chose this specific 0W-40 weight formulation in order to match the LT4 OEM recommendation for excellent cold-start flow while maintaining strong high-temperature protection. This is the weight we are running in our 915rwhp SHOP CAR which is best for…
Street driven performance vehicles with moderate track use with some cold climate operation on direct injected cars running catalytic converters.
HP-X 5W-50
We chose this specific 5W-50 weight formulation for those who wanted a little more shearing or dilution protection and improved viscosity stability under sustained load and high temperatures, making it a favorite for enthusiasts who regularly push their cars hard. This weight is best for…
Aggressive street driving, heavy roll racing, road course events where elevated oil temperatures are expected on direct injected cars running catalytic converters.
DI50 15W-50 Racing Oil
Maximum Protection for Extreme Track Performance on Di vehicles without catalytic converters. The DI50 formulation is a true racing oil, built for engines that see sustained high load, high heat, and high RPM. The DI50 formula features:
• Reduced calcium and sodium detergent levels
• Increased molybdenum friction modifiers
• High ZDDP anti-wear additives
• Low volatility synthetic base stocks
• Exceptional high-temperature stability
These features help reduce abnormal combustion events such as low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI) and protect against soot-related wear common in direct injection engines.
The 15W-50 viscosity provides superior oil film strength and pressure stability under extreme heat and racing conditions. Because of its racing-focused additive package, DI50 does not meet current API or OEM specifications, allowing higher levels of performance additives than typical street oils. We choose this oil weight to match GM’s recommendation for a track-only oil weight. We suggest following GM’s use intervals when racing.
The Driven Racing Oil Story
Driven Racing Oil was born inside the engine shop at Joe Gibbs Racing, one of the most successful teams in professional motorsports.
In the late 1990s, the team began experiencing camshaft and valvetrain failures in their NASCAR engines due to the reduced anti-wear additives in modern API oils. Instead of accepting the limitations of conventional lubricants, the engineers at Joe Gibbs Racing set out to create their own oil formulas specifically designed for racing engines.
The result was the first Driven Racing Oil formulation — an oil engineered from the ground up to protect high-performance engines under extreme loads.
The results spoke for themselves. After adopting the new oil formulations, Joe Gibbs Racing went on to win multiple NASCAR championships and over 100 races, cementing Driven Racing Oil’s reputation as a serious performance lubricant.
Today, Driven oils are trusted by professional race teams, engine builders, dyno facilities and performance enthusiasts worldwide!
Driven operates on a simple philosophy… “Put the motor ahead of the molecule.” In other words — build the oil around the engine, not the other way around. It’s this focus, and purpose built philosophy that sets them apart from the sea of generic, low quality oils.
Fitment Guide;
Driven HP-X and DI Series oils are compatible with a wide range of modern high-performance engines. Common applications include:
GM LT Platform
Camaro SS (LT1)
Camaro ZL1 (LT4)
Corvette C7 Stingray (LT1)
Corvette Z06 (LT4)
Corvette C8 Stingray (LT2)
Cadillac CTS-V (LT4)
Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing (LT4)
If you have a “built engine” always verify viscosity recommendations with your engine builder, as your bearing clearances may dictate the ideal viscosity.
How much oil do I need?
Although LT engines use (10) quarts of oil, we always suggest purchasing (12) quarts so that you have extra on hand should you need to add oil between oil changes. But for those who already have some extra we sell these by the quart. For those using our Stage.II Oil Cooler, you will need an extra 2 quarts.
